Hey Internet Girl, Aaron Sorkin Was On 'Late Night with Jimmy Fallon' (PLUS: Who Wants to Talk About 'The Newsroom'?)

Jimmy Fallon had writer extraordinaire Aaron Sorkin on his show on Wednesday night, with Sorkin there to promote The Newsroom, his latest TV series. Sorkin didn't offer much new on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon besides the fact that an upcoming episode of The Newsroom will deal with the death of Osama bin Laden. That said, I'm going to use this opportunity to share my brief thoughts about the first episode of The Newsroom.

As someone who doesn't have HBO, the announcement that the first episode of The Newsroom would be available for free on YouTube and other platforms was much appreciated. I finally got around to watching that episode last night, after seeing Sorkin on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. I know that a lot of Internet commenters had complaints about The Newsroom, but I was very impressed with it.

I guess I'm a sucker for super hopeful speeches about journalism, and the one that Emily Mortimer's MacKenzie McHale gives to Jeff Daniels' Will McAvoy completely got me. Is there anyone better at writing these kinds of riffs than Aaron Sorkin? To see his work on HBO, with the added freedom that network gives him, shows great potential for The Newsroom.

As someone who worked in a newsroom the night Osama bin Laden was killed, I'm incredibly excited to see how The Newsroom tackles that news event. Here's hoping that HBO keeps offering The Newsroom for free a few days after the show airs.
