'SNL' UPDATE: Jason Sudeikis Gone, Seth Meyers Staying?
The months since Saturday Night Live wrapped up its season have been filled with speculation over the future of the cast. We officially know that Kristen Wiig and Andy Samberg are gone. The biggest question remaining has been whether or not Jason Sudeikis will be back for another season. His detached demeanor during Wiig's farewell only confused SNL fans further.
Well, according to an Entertainment Weekly roundup published on Monday, Sudeikis has all but finalized his departure from the late-night institution, making comments to both Men's Journal and Rolling Stone that he's “left places before. This is very, very different," and that he'll “miss the people. The people, the process, the parties—those are the three p’s I’ll miss the most.” Sounds like a guy who's ready to move on.
Now how about the fate of head writer and Weekend Update anchor Seth Meyers, who had been rumored to be one of the top choices to replace Regis Philbin on Live! with Kelly?
In an interview with the Sun Sentinel, Meyers shot down the idea that he would be sitting next to Kelly Ripa come fall.
“No, no, no, no, no,” Meyers said by phone from New York on Monday afternoon. “I know [Reege’s replacement] is a very important thing down there. But, right now, what I would say to you: I’m really in love with the job I have. I’m very excited to be going back [to “SNL”] for the election season, which is always fun.”Obviously, Meyers could be playing coy with the situation, especially if contract negotiations are going on. Odds are the guy is telling the truth though, and we can expect to see Meyers back at the Update desk in September.
