AAUGH! 'Ice Age 4' Director to Helm 'Peanuts' Movie, Ruin Everyone's Childhoods

There are few franchises that are held in higher regard than Charles M. Schulz's Peanuts. So many of us grew up with Snoopy, Charlie Brown and the entire gang. Schulz is revered by other cartoonists, and newspapers still run repeats of his comic strip twelve years after his death. As a kid, I had just about every Peanuts TV special on VHS tapes and still remember them vividly to this day.

Deadline broke the news this morning that Twentieth Century Fox Animation and Blue Sky Studios will produce a Peanuts movie, set to hit theaters on Nov. 25, 2012. Steve Martino, who's best known for directing Dr. Seuss' Horton Hears a Who! and Ice Age: Continental Drift, will direct the film.

Aaugh. Peanuts deserves better than this. Do we really want a Peanuts movie filled with celebrity voice cameos? I don't want to hear Justin Bieber as Charlie Brown. I don't want to hear Nicki Minaj as Lucy. I don't want to see Snoopy wearing a hoodie and a backwards hat like Alvin and the Chipmunks do now. Someone, please, please stop this from happening. If Pixar were somehow the studio doing this, it might be OK. The Ice Age films are not a sign of good things to come ...
