BOX OFFICE REPORT (NOV. 23-25): 'Twilight,' 'Skyfall' and 'Lincoln' Top Thanksgiving Weekend
$43.07 million ($226.96 million)
While The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn — Part 2 may have remained at the top of the box office charts this weekend (c'mon, people), the movie helped fuel one of the best overall weekends in awhile. With Thanksgiving breaks fueling the weekend, the box office saw Breaking Dawn 2 and Skyfall hold their onto their positions well, Lincoln continue its surge and Rise of the Guardians and Life of Pi both open to more than $20 million.
Breaking Dawn 2 has now made more than the original Twilight movie, but I guess that's not a very big accomplishment. The first Twilight wasn't the box office behemoth we now expect from the franchise, and this was only Breaking Dawn 2's second weekend.
2. Skyfall (2)
$36.00 million ($221.72 million)
Wow. Skyfall's $221.72 million domestic box office total is now more than $50 million higher than Quantum of Solace, the previous highest-grossing James Bond film. This film is a bonafide phenomenon, crushing domestic and global box office records. Bond has always been popular, but the franchise hasn't been known for box office dominance like this in a long time.
3. Lincoln (3)
$25.02 million ($62.18 million)
Lincoln actually improved upon last week's gross by 18.9 percent as the film expanded to an additional 243 theaters. This is the film I keep telling people to go see. I can't wait to see how Steven Spielberg and Daniel Day-Lewis do at the Oscars.

4. Rise of the Guardians (N)
$24.03 million ($32.61 million)
DreamWorks Animation hasn't had a movie open to less than $30 million since 2006's Flushed Away. It's unfortunate that Rise of the Guardians, a movie with a 74 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes, can't open big while other awful animated movies (cough, Ice Age: Continental Drift, cough) can open to huge box office numbers.

5. Life of Pi (N)
$22.00 million ($30.15 million)
I've heard great things about Life of Pi in addition to viewing an 3D scene from the film earlier this year, so I'm thrilled to see that Ang Lee's latest has opened so well and struck a cord with moviegoers.
Next week's predictions:
1. The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn — Part 2
2. Lincoln
3. Skyfall
4. Killing Them Softly
5. Life of Pi
