OSCARINDEX: 'Les Miserables' Sets Its Sights on 'Lincoln' While 'The Master' Tumbles
Popculturology's Chronicle OscarIndex is a nifty chart of the top ten films that you should be paying attention to in order to be ready for the the Oscars. Each film on the list is assigned an OscarIndex number, with the No. 1 film getting a score of 100. The following nine films then get OscarIndex numbers based on how much buzz they have going into the Academy Awards compared to the No. 1 film.
After taking last week off due to Thanksgiving, the OscarIndex is back with some big changes. Lincoln still has a firm hold on the No. 1 spot, but Nos. 2 through 4 have been shaken up. Les Miserables jumps 14 points to claim the No. 2 position, and Tom Hooper's film is now creeping up on Lincoln. Can Hooper follow up The King's Speech with another Oscar upset? Meanwhile, The Master has tumbled to the No. 4 spot, and with Argo's continued strength, I wouldn't be surprised to see The Master eventually fall further.
The film to watch right now is Zero Dark Thirty, director Kathryn Bigelow's look at the ten-year search and eventually killing of Osama bin Laden. This one's going to ease into a limited release schedule in December, so it could hit the buzz sweet spot at just the right time.
