OSCARINDEX: 'Lincoln' Remains No. 1 as the Big Five Distance Themselves from the Field

The Bill Kuchman Chronicle OscarIndex is a nifty chart of the top ten films that you should be paying attention to in order to be ready for the the Oscars. Each film on the list is assigned an OscarIndex number, with the No. 1 film getting a score of 100. The following nine films then get OscarIndex numbers based on how much buzz they have going into the Academy Awards compared to the No. 1 film.

While the re-calibration of the OscarIndex may have pushed The Master from the top spot, it looks like Paul Thomas Anderson's film would've slipped anyways. After chipping away at The Master's lead for weeks, Lincoln holds onto the top spot for a second week in a row, increasing its lead in the process. With Steven Spielberg's film going into limited release this weekend and full release next weekend, there's a good chance that the Daniel Day-Lewis vehicle will further solidify its position in the weeks to come.

The big five — Lincoln, The Master, Silver Linings Playbook, Les Miserables and Argo — continue to distance themselves from the rest of the field. Zero Dark Thirty is starting to show some life, but with that film opting for just a qualifying run in December, we probably won't see its full strength until the new year. Beyond the top ten, Flight edges up a few points again. With a Denzel Washington Best Actor nomination looking more and more likely, we shouldn't be surprised to see Flight eventually crack the top ten.
