Sam Claflin, Eddie Redmayne, Douglas Booth or Boyd Holbrook Could Be Harry Osborn in 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2'

As a huge defender of The Amazing Spider-Man, I've been impressed with the casting choices director Marc Webb and Sony have made so far. Andrew Garfield is a far, far better Peter Parker than Tobey Maguire was in Sam Raimi's trilogy. Emma Stone is an amazing Gwen Stacy, and she and Garfield had serious chemistry even before they were officially dating. The sequel has so far brought on Shailene Woodley, an actress who should've been nominated for an Oscar for The Descendants, to play Mary Jane Watson and cast Oscar-winner Jamie Foxx to play Electro.

In looking for the right guy to play Harry Osborn, though, the franchise appears to have fallen into the Twilight trap. Sam Claflin, Eddie Redmayne, Douglas Booth and Boyd Holbrook tested for the role of Parker's best friend, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Let's look at the résumés of these four actors.

Claflin is best known for his roles in Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides and Snow White and the Huntsman. His face will be everywhere when The Hunger Games: Catching Fire hits theaters as he landed the coveted role of Finnick Odair. There's Claflin's young-adult fiction membership card.

Redmayne is actually a serious actor, garnering praise last year for his starring role in My Week with Marilyn. He'll also be seen in the upcoming film adaption of Les Misérables. Anyone who wants to admit to watching Hick knows that Redmayne played a part in that movie too. Is Redmayne a good actor? Yes. Is he Harry Osborn? No.

Booth had a starring role in Miley Cyrus' LOL. Enough said.

Boyd's biggest credit thus far was a part in the cable series Hatfield and McCoys. Not bad, but not enough to be Harry Osborn.

When it comes down to it, I'd hate to see the role of Harry Osborn giving to some model-actor in hopes of creating a Team Peter/Team Harry dynamic, especially if Webb's Spider-Man franchise follows Raimi's in terms of making the two friends rivals for the same girl. Go back to the drawing board, Sony, and find some other options for this part.
