Thanks, Olympics: The Academy Pushes Back the 2014 Oscars to March 2

While recent Academy Awards ceremonies have been held in late February, next year's show will make all of us wait just a bit longer to see how we do in our Oscar pools. With the Closing Ceremony of the Sochi Winter Olympics already falling on the last Sunday in February, the Academy will hold the 2014 Oscars on March 2. Nominations will be announced on Thursday, Jan. 16.

The next Oscars don't have a host a yet, but it seems like Jimmy Kimmel has already emerged as the favorite. While Tina Fey and Amy Poehler have received a lot of pop culture buzz, Kimmel has everything going in his favor. He already works for ABC, the network that airs the Oscars. He's proven himself a capable awards show host. Heck, his Jimmy Kimmel Live! studio is right across the street from the Dolby Theatre, making Oscar rehearsals a cinch to fit into his schedule. If NBC chooses to hand The Tonight Show off to Jimmy Fallon in February, Kimmel hosting the Oscars would give ABC a huge amount of promotional opportunities.

In addition to announcing March 2 for next year's Oscars, the Academy also announced that the 2015 Oscars would be held on Feb. 22
