FIRST LOOK: Chris Hemsworth and Natalie Portman Reunite in 'Thor: The Dark World'

While The Avengers was met with almost universal praise, fanboys thought one element of the Marvel Cinematic Universe was missing: Natalie Portman. A main character in 2011's Thor, Portman's Jane Foster was reduced to a quick photograph in The Avengers. If our first look at Thor: The Dark World, courtesy of USA Today, is any sign, Portman will be back in this November's sequel. And she's going to be in Asgard.

One day before the first trailer for Thor: The Dark World is scheduled to hit the Internet, USA Today revealed two images from the movie, with one of them featured Portman and Chris Hemsworth in Asgardian armor and robes. It looks like the movie is planning on addressing how easily Thor made it back to Earth in The Avengers.
There are just a couple of problems for the young lovers in the film, opening Nov. 8. For starters, Thor visited Earth from his celestial Nordic home of Asgard to help his superhero pals in 2012's The Avengers. But Thor didn't call Jane (Natalie Portman) while he was in New York. To be fair, he was saving the world and she was in hiding for her own protection.
It's complicated. But still, he didn't call.
"Thor still has lot of explaining to do, and a lot of making up," says Hemsworth. "Even demigods end up in the doghouse, mate. So none of us is safe."
To further complicate things, Foster's life is in danger, and Thor is forced to bring her from Earth to Asgard for safekeeping.
To check out both images from USA Today, head past the jump. We'll bring you the first trailer for Thor: The Dark World on Tuesday too.
