Will Alec Baldwin Replace Carson Daly as Host of NBC's 'Last Call'?

Ah, Last Call ... the final piece of NBC's late-night lineup that most people don't even realize exists. While Carson Daly has once again entered the public's televised world with The Voice, the former MTV TRL host has also anchored Last Call for 12 seasons. There was a time when it looked like Daly would use Last Call to eventually take over Late Night from Conan O'Brien. Even though Daly is still with NBC, his late-night hopes were dashed by Jimmy Fallon, who got Late Night instead and will soon become the host of The Tonight Show.

After over a decade, though, it looks like Daly may be moving on from Last Call, with The New York Times reporting that Alec Baldwin is in talks to become the host of the latest part of NBC's late-night schedule.

The Emmy-winning actor is in the mix for a spot in NBC’s late-night lineup, one executive involved in the network’s program planning said. The executive asked not to be identified because the talks were still in initial stages. 

The most likely landing place for a show hosted by Mr. Baldwin would be in the latest of NBC’s entries, the show now called “Last Call.” That half-hour interview program currently stars Carson Daly.

While the Times kind of hints at the possibility that Baldwin could be angling for Late Night, all signs point to Saturday Night Live head writer and Weekend Update anchor Seth Meyers being NBC's choice to follow Fallon there (something that Popculturology had predicted before news broke that Meyers was actually the favorite for the spot).

If Baldwin does become the host of Last Call along with Meyers becoming the host of Late Night, that'll mean that all three of NBC's late-night shows will be hosted by people with direct ties to SNL's Lorne Michaels. Would Michaels produce Last Call too? Between The Tonight Show, Late Night, Last Call and SNL, Michaels would be the most powerful person at NBC, controlling the network's entire late-night schedule.
