Zoe Saldana Confirms That She'll Play Gamora in Marvel's 'Guardians of the Galaxy'

Zoe Saldana was in London for the Star Trek Into Darkness premiere this week, and a reporter asked her about Guardians of the Galaxy. The last I had heard, all signs pointed to the actress playing Gamora the upcoming Marvel film but things hadn't been confirmed, so I expected Saldana to play coy with the reporter. I was a bit surprised when Saldana's actual reply was, "Well, I'm going to be green." Huh. I guess that confirms it. Saldana is playing Gamora in Guardians of the Galaxy.

I also wanted to use this news to discuss what we should expect in terms of Gamora's look in the Guardians of the Galaxy movie. Prior to Brian Michael Bendis' relaunch of the comic series, Gamora was usually drawn as some kind of scantily clad alien pin-up, a look that some fanboys were really looking forward to seeing on the big screen. The new Guardians series has revamped the character's look, though, with Gamora now rocking body armor. If I had to guess, I'd say that Bendis, being a part of Marvel's inner brain trust, knew that Disney and Marvel Studios weren't going to put a character dressed like this in one of the Marvel Cinematic Universe movies. I'm still curious about how Saldana will play Gamora. We know she'll be green, but will it be body paint and body armor or will this be her second franchise where she plays a character through motion-capture?

Head past the jump to check out the video of Saldana confirming that she's in for Guardians of the Galaxy, courtesy of SuperHeroHype.
