'X-Men: Days of Future Past' Unveils Its Sentinels, Celebrates Trask Industries' 50th Anniversary With Viral Site

I said it a few weeks ago, and I'm going to say it again now — Bryan Singer's X-Men: Days of Future Past is one of the most ambitious superhero movies we've ever seen come together. Sure, we don't know how the movie will turn out, but as of now, the director should be applauded for what he's attempting to do. Weaving the original X-Men trilogy together with the rebooted/prequel X-Men: First Class franchise all while tackling Days of Future Past, one of the most revered X-Men stories, is no easy task. From what we've seen so far, though, Singer is doing a pretty great job.

Despite there being four X-Men movies and two Wolverine movies, there's been a big chunk of the X-Men universe missing from the silver screen: The Sentinels. Created by Bolivar Trask to defend humanity against the mutant threat, the Sentinels only briefly appeared in X-Men: The Last Stand during a Danger Room training exercise. Moviegoers have never actually gotten to see the giant robots hunt down the X-Men. That changes in X-Men: Days of Future Past.

Beginning with Comic-Con two weeks ago, Fox has begun teasing Trask Industries and the Sentinel project. On Monday, X-Men fans got to check out the Trask Industries website, which gives a ton of back history on the Sentinels and Trask himself (played by Game of Thrones' Peter Dinklage with a killer 1970s mustache). There's also a promotional video for the Sentinel program along with picture of the robots standing guard at key moments in American history.

I'm curious to see how Singer and his team are going to bring this story together. Pictures such as a Sentinel watching over Ronald Reagan being sworn in as president definitely hint that X-Men: Days of Future Past will rewrite history, but the question is when does the rewrite happen? The X-Men we saw in Singer and Brett Ratner's original trilogy weren't living in a world where Sentinels hunted them down. Do the First Class X-Men do something to trigger this historical shift?

X-Men: Days of Future Past hits theaters on May 23, 2014, so we'll have to wait until then to find out the answers to these questions. In the meantime, head past the jump to check out a bunch of videos and pictures from Trask Industries' Sentinels program.
