Judd Apatow Wants to Make Amy Schumer a Movie Star
If you've been watching Comedy Central for the past few years, odds are that you're familiar with Amy Schumer. The comedian made a name for herself with a few vicious roast appearances, a standup special, Mostly Sex Stuff; and now Inside Amy Schumer, her own sketch show. If Whitney Cummings is the scenario where a female comedian gains notoriety thanks to Comedy Central roasts but then squanders that fame with an awful NBC show, Schumer is the opposite.
Schumer appears to have caught the attention of one of the most powerful names in comedy too: Judd Apatow. According to Deadline, the man behind Freaks and Geeks, The 40-Year-Old Virgin and Knocked Up will produce a script that Schumer is writing and will star in.
The Deadline article links Apatow's involvement in Schumer's movie career to his guidance of Bridesdmaids and Girls, making it sound like Apatow goes around magically making actresses funny. Can't we just consider that Apatow knows talent when he sees it, regardless of sex? I mean, Will Ferrell, Steve Carell, Seth Rogen and Jonah Hill aren't quite women, right?
