Marvel Wants Elizabeth Olsen to Play Scarlet Witch in 'The Avengers' Sequel After Saoirse Ronan Passes

From the very moment Joss Whedon revealed that he was including the Scarlet Witch in The Avengers: Age of Ultron, actress Saoirse Ronan has been used as the model for the character, with the actress' casting pretty much being a foregone conclusion. Despite no announcements from Marvel, Ronan would be the Scarlet Witch and Aaron Taylor-Johnson would be Quicksilver. Done deal, right?

Well, according to a Bleeding Cool report on Tuesday, Ronan has passed on the role, with Whedon and Marvel now moving onto their next choice to play the Scarlet Witch: Elizabeth Olsen.

In previous articles about Olsen, I haven't shied away from my enthusiasm for her. After seeing Martha Marcy May Marlene (a role she could've been Oscar nominated for) and Liberal Arts, it's obvious that Olsen has star potential. With parts in Godzilla and Oldboy, she's on the right path to realizing that potential.

Playing the Scarlet Witch in The Avengers: Age of Ultron would make Olsen an instant star. Whedon deeply cares about creating amazing female characters, and according to Bleeding Cool, he's written the Scarlet Witch to be "reputedly a real scene-stealer."

I really hope this rumor is true.
