Vin Diesel Pretty Much Confirms That He'll Voice Groot the Talking Tree in Marvel's 'Guardians of the Galaxy'

After Vin Diesel changed his Facebook cover photo to Groot, the talking tree from Guardians of the Galaxy, over the week, people started guessing that the Fast and Furious star would be voicing the character in next year's cinematic adaption of the comic. Since Diesel eventually deleted the photo and has a history of teasing different Marvel characters through social media (he's also posted pictures of himself with an Avengers drawing and made references to Vision), I wanted to hold off on reporting that "Ohmigod, Vin Diesel is voicing Groot!"

Thanks to an interview with the Los Angeles Times' Hero Complex, though, I think it's safe to believe that Diesel will be saying, "I am Groot," a few times in the future. While Marvel hasn't made things official yet, Diesel talked as if the role was a done deal, revealing what attracted him to such an odd character. It sounds like Diesel and Marvel settled on Groot in order to get the actor into the Marvel Cinematic Universe while still accommodating his busy schedule.

"I’m so busy. The audience wanted Vin and Marvel, Vin and Marvel. But I’m too busy to do a six-month role. So what Marvel came up with was really interesting. … I am watching a social wave influence and in some ways guide their thinking," Diesel told Hero Complex. Guardians of the Galaxy has already begun shooting, but when we're talking about a CGI tree creature who only says one line over and over again, it won't be much work for Diesel to swing by a recording booth for the role.

With Diesel on board as Groot, the voice of Rocket Raccoon is the only glaring missing piece left for Guardians of the Galaxy to fill in.
