Marvel Moves 'Ant-Man' to July 2015 to Avoid Facing Off Against 'Skyfall' Sequel
The 2015 movie calendar is set to be one of the busiest in years. We have sequels to The Avengers, Jurassic Park and Man of Steel, a new Star Wars movie and a Terminator reboot. With only so many prime opening weekends to go around, it was only a matter of time before two potential blockbusters found themselves awkwardly sharing a weekend. Originally, Marvel's Ant-Man and the sequel to Skyfall were both slotted to open on Nov. 6, 2015, which would've set up a huge clash.
On Monday, Marvel opted out of that battle, moving Edgar Wright's Ant-Man to July 31, 2015. The studio now has two movies scheduled for that summer, with The Avengers: Age of Ultron already penciled in for May 1, 2015. Currently, those two movies are the only ones Marvel has planned for that year, but with Ant-Man moved up by several months, there's always the chance the studio adds a third.
While this move was made to avoid having the Skyfall sequel possibly eat Ant-Man's box office lunch, some have already begun speculating that Marvel parent Disney made this move as part of its secret plan to release Star Wars: Episode VII in December. As Furious Fanboys' Jeremy Conrad points out, that makes no sense, but that won't stop people from thinking it's true.
