No Pixar Movies in 2014: Studio Pushes 'The Good Dinosaur' and 'Finding Dory' Back
Back in June, Pixar President Ed Catmull talked about getting his studio back into its creative sweetspot, planning to increase the number of original films it was producing while cutting back on sequels at the same time. On Wednesday, the studio sent out a different signal, announcing that it was pushing back The Good Dinosaur and Finding Dory, leaving 2014 as the first year without a Pixar movie since 2005.
A delay for The Good Dinosaur isn't shocking. Director Bob Peterson left the movie last month, and Pixar has yet to name a new director. The studio has often changed directors mid-production, but for a movie to not have a director, well, that's a different story. The Good Dinosaur, which was originally scheduled to be released on May 30, 2014, will now open on Nov. 25, 2015.
Finding Dory, the sequel to 2003's Finding Nemo, will shift from Nov. 25, 2015, to June 17, 2016. Yes, you read that right. Finding Dory is now just under three years away. Fans have waited this long for a sequel — hopefully they can wait a little longer.
These moves now leave Inside Out as the next Pixar movie. The Pete Docter-director movie is scheduled to open on June 19, 2015.
