'Thor: The Dark World' and 'Game of Thrones' Director Alan Taylor in Talks for 'Terminator' Reboot

After rising to iconic pop culture status under James Cameron, the Terminator franchise fell on some hard times. Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines was directed by Jonathan Mostow, whose next most famous movie is ... um ... U-571? Surrogates? Then there's Terminator Salvation, a movie with a ton of potential (and Christian Bale flipping out on lights guys), but McG just couldn't pull everything together.

With the Terminator franchise rebooting, Skydance and Annapurna have honed in on the man they want to lead the next phase of Terminator movies. According to Variety, that man is Alan Taylor. The Thor: The Dark World and Game of Thrones director is currently in talks with the two studios producing Terminator.
Sources tell Variety that Taylor is in talks to direct the rebooted “Terminator” film for Skydance Productions, Paramount and Annapurna Pictures. All the studios and reps had no comment on the news.
Plot details have not been revealed other than this is the first film in a stand alone trilogy. It is still unknown at this time what part Arnold Schwarzenegger will have in the film, though he has said in past interviews he will be back for the film.
Interestingly, Variety also notes that Rian Johnson had been courted to direct this movie. After helming Looper, would a Terminator have been too much time travel for Johnson? I would've loved to have seen where he would've taken the franchise.

The new Terminator movie is slated to hit theaters on June 26, 2015.
