TRAILER: 'The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug' Has a Talking Dragon and Evangeline Lilly
OK, so there's much more to the latest The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug trailer than just a talking dragon and Evangeline Lilly, but those are probably the highlights, right? Did I mention that the talking dragon is voiced by Benedict Cumberbatch? Now you're excited.
The Desolation of Smaug is the second movie in director Peter Jackson's The Hobbit trilogy, technically not even existing until last summer. While The Hobbit itself is a small book, Jackson and company first split it into two movies, An Unexpected Journey, which came out last December, and There and Back Again. Once Jackson realized he could add a middle film, The Desolation of Smaug became a reality.
The new trailer for The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug does a pretty good job mixing up characters from the Lord of the Rings trilogy (Ian McKellen's Gandalf, Orlando Bloom's Legolas), the newer Hobbit characters (Martin Freeman's Bilbo Baggins, Richard Armitage's Thorin Oakenshield) and even a few characters that were never in JRR Tolkein's books (Lilly's Tauriel). Thanks to Tauriel, I'm going to make at least one Lost joke while watching this movie. Hopefully she tells someone they have to go back.
The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug hits theaters on Dec. 13. Head past the jump to check out the new trailer.
