CBS Orders 'How I Met Your Dad,' Which Is What They're Calling the 'How I Met Your Mother' Spinoff Now
That How I Met Your Mother spinoff we talked about last month is moving forward, with TVLine reporting that CBS has ordered a pilot for the show. While initial reports referred to the show as How I Met Your Father, it seems that CBS is now calling it How I Met Your Dad. C'mon, CBS, you gotta stick with father once you've used mother. It wasn't called How I Met Your Mom.
HIMYM co-creator Craig Thomas took to Twitter on Friday night to dish out some more details about HIMYD, pointing out that the show will feature new characters, none of who will be introduced during the final season of HIMYM. Thomas also noted that the show won't necessarily be set at MacLaren's and that they're doing HIMYD "so we can finally answer where the pineapple came from."
I know that the ages of the actors would cause a problem, as would the fact that HIMYM was always present day, but I would love it if HIMYD showed The Mother's journey to Farhampton. Cristin Milioti is so great in that role, and I'd love to see her flesh it out. The emotional connection to the original series would go a long way when it comes to getting fans to bond with this new show. Do we really want to invest nine years in watching a new girl try to find her husband?
