'Doctor Who' Unveils Sneak Peek at Peter Capaldi as The Doctor

The Day of the Doctor, the BBC's much-anticipated Doctor Who 50th anniversary special, aired around the world on Saturday. The special celebrated 50 years of the cult favorite (which is quickly becoming a mainstream favorite), bringing back David Tennant and Matt Smith as the Tenth Doctor and Eleventh Doctor, while also fully introducing John Hurt as the War Doctor.

During the special's climax (SPOILERS), that trio of Doctors joined together with the Doctors that came before them. In a surprise moment, Peter Capaldi appeared as the upcoming Twelfth Doctor. Of course, it was a bit confusing that Capaldi's incarnation of the character was declared to be the thirteenth during that scene. I guess we're not counting Hurt's War Doctor.

After the special aired, the official Doctor Who Twitter account released a shot of Capaldi (and his eyebrows) from The Day of the Doctor. Capaldi will takeover the role of The Doctor full-time with the Doctor Who Christmas special, which is scheduled to air in December.
