'HIMYM' Creators: Cristin Milioti Should Win an Emmy for 200th Episode, Spinoff Will Be 'Brand New Story'

In my weekly chats about How I Met Your Mother, I've repeatedly stated that Cristin Milioti's addition to the show as The Mother has been one of the shining parts of HIMYM's ninth season. The show has sadly wasted a lot of time with filler plots and characters who don't matter, but whenever Milioti is on, everything is OK. Hopefully things will be getting better too.

According to TheWrap, HIMYM creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas revealed a few secrets about the show's upcoming 200th episode, including the fact that Milioti would play a big role in the milestone episode.

Thomas added that Milioti is “the star of episode 200, let’s say it that way. We want her to win an Emmy for this episode, Cristin. She’s beautiful and wonderful and hilarious in this episode.”

Bays also added that they've chosen to show The Mother sparingly so far, saying, "We definitely didn’t want to give too much of the mother, that was our number one thing. she has to be special. As sort of a template we kind of looked at Jaws, kind of. Like, you don’t see the shark right away; it pops up here and there, but you see more of the shark as the movie goes on."

Look, guys, you've had eight years to use The Mother sparingly. Now is not the time. HIMYM has had no problem pushing Sherri Shepherd's Daphne on us in one of the worst storyline in TV history. Show us The Mother.

Bays and Thomas also gave some more insight on How I Met Your Dad, the HIMYM spinoff that CBS greenlit this past weekend. While the duo has repeatedly said that there won't be any crossover with HIMYM, we've held out hope that there would be some kind of connective tissue. In a perfect world, Milioti's character would even be the star of the show.

That's not happening.

“I almost wish we could use [Milioti]," Thomas said. "She's good enough to do it, she's good enough to carry a series. But the thing that's most important to us is that How I Met Your Mother has its own ending, and then that's it. ... And then, should [the spinoff] go forward, that will have to earn the love again in a new way and just be its own charming, different thing."

Well, for now we can at least look forward to Milioti and HIMYM's 200th episode, which airs on Jan. 27, 2014. Doesn't it seem like just yesterday Girls vs. Suits, the show's 100th episode, aired?
