2014 GOLDEN GLOBES: The Winners

Whew, the 2014 Golden Globes are behind us, which means we can focus full-time on the Oscars now. Before we get to those, though, let's take a few minutes to go over what went down when Tina Fey and Amy Poehler hosted the 71st Golden Globe Awards on Sunday night.

The big story on the movie side was how the Hollywood Foreign Press divvied up its major awards. Sure, 12 Years a Slave took home Best Motion Picture — Drama, but Dallas Buyers Club got two acting awards, with Matthew McConaughey trumping Oscar favorite Chiwetel Ejiofor for Best Actor — Drama. I'm not sure if there's a McConaughey surge coming for the Oscars, but I do think the Jennifer Lawrence surge is real, with the American Hustle actress taking home Best Supporting Actress — Drama over 12 Years a Slave's Lupita Nyong'o. American Hustle also won Best Motion Picture — Comedy or Drama and saw Amy Adams win Best Actress — Drama. The HFPA also honored Gravity with a major award, declaring Gravity's Alfonso Cuaron its Best Director. See what I mean? All over the place. Not sure what — if anything — this means for the Oscars.

The biggest story on the TV side had to be the surprise dominance of Brooklyn Nine-Nine. Fox's rookie comedy trounced The Big Bang Theory, snagging honors for Best Television Series — Comedy or Musical and Best Actor — Comedy or Musical for Andy Samberg. Thankfully the Golden Globes finally recognized Poehler for her Parks and Recreation performance too. Are you paying attention, Emmys? The Golden Globes do a lot of dumb stuff, but the victories by Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Parks and Rec over The Big Bang Theory and Modern Family were dead on.
