James Avery, Uncle Phil on 'Fresh Prince of Bel-Air,' Dead at 65
James Avery, best known for playing Philip Banks on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, is dead at age 65. TMZ reported that the actor had passed away after battling an undisclosed illness.
Alfonso Ribeiro, who played Carlton Banks on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, confirmed the news through his Twitter account, tweeting, "I'm deeply saddened to say that James Avery has passed away. He was a second father to me. I will miss him greatly."
In addition to The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Avery voiced Shredder on the animated Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles TV show from 1987 to 1993.
