Rating the Runway of the Golden Globes

The Golden Globes are unlike any other awards ceremony Hollywood has to offer. It’s the start of awards season and a time when celebrities give us a glimpse of which trendsetting fashions we’ll see during the upcoming award ceremonies. If this year is a sign of things to come, it’s going to be one fine-looking award season. Limo after limo dropped off perfect-looking celebrities in stunning dresses and pressed tuxedos at the Golden Globes on Sunday night.

While all celebrities shined, there were five mighty fine looking folks that immediately caught my eyes:

Lupita Nyong’o of 12 Years a Slave wore a beautiful red dress that will likely be named best dressed of the year. It was simple, elegant and truly stunning. She could not have looked better for her first red carpet of the season (and maybe career?).

Will Forte reminded us yet again that he is one good-looking guy. In a Ralph Lauren tuxedo (that was blue nonetheless) and his lucky Los Angeles Clipper socks, Forte looked like a handsome Hollywood man. He’s certainly come a long way from his Saturday Night Live days.

Amy Poehler’s red carpet dress was gorgeous. The sleek black dress with a small cutout was stunning on her. She looked beautiful and far from Leslie Knope’s closet full of pant suits and button down shirts.

Cate Blanchett is the definition of old Hollywood glamour. She consistently steps onto red carpets looking like she just came from an Armani photo shoot this year was no different. She was gorgeous and one of the absolute best dressed of the evening.

Emma Watson. Can you just please stop with the perfection? You’re making the rest of us look bad.

Yes, those five (and so many others) looked stunning on the red carpet but there were a number of trends that were seen over and over again from our favorites. What were they, you ask? Let me tell you …

• Cutouts and low backs took over this year’s red carpet. So many dresses this season sported a plunging back dress line or small cutouts which looked great on so many celebrities who somehow didn’t gain a single pound over the holidays.

• Black dresses with gold detail were everywhere this year. I’d say one out of every three celebrities was sporting a black dressed and it looked so classy. Sleek red dresses were also a popular pick for this year’s award ceremony.

Margot Robbie, Elizabeth Moss, Rita Wilson, Mila Kunis and so many others wore dresses with intricate beading that made their dresses. With minimal jewelry, it was dresses like these that really stood out against the rest.

• Blue tuxedos with black lapels. Maybe it was just something the former cast members of SNL (Forte, Seth Meyers and Andy Samberg) were pulling off but they seemed to be all over the red carpet and it was awesome.
