Stop All the Downloading: 'Transcendence' Trailer Gives Johnny Depp Artificial Intelligence

You should be excited about Transcendence for two reasons. The first is that the film is the directorial debut of Wally Pfister, the longtime cinematographer for Christopher Nolan. The new trailer for Transcendence that hit the Internet on Tuesday shares a visual look with Inception, which shouldn't be a surprise once you realize that Pfister was behind-the-scences on both films.

The second reason you should be excited about Transcendence is that we're finally going to see Johnny Depp break free from Tim Burton. No stupid makeup. No stupid hats. No stupid voices. Just Depp acting for a director who brings a ton of experience to the film. Did Burton and Depp once do great things together? Yup. Did Burton and Depp's work become stale, formulaic and derivative of itself over the past few years? Yup. Depp getting away from Burton could be the very thing that kickstarts the next phase in his career.

Transcendence also stars Morgan Freeman, Rebecca Hall, Paul Bettany, Kate Mara and Cillian Murphy. It opens on April 18.
