Caesar's Got a Gun: 10 New Pics from 'Dawn of the Planet of the Apes'
With the exception of Godzilla trailers and TV spots, there isn't a movie coming out this summer that I'm more excited about than Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. I've always loved the Planet of the Apes series and thought the prequel/reboot Rise of the Planet of the Apes was awesome. Imagining what comes next in the prequel story with Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is exciting, especially after seeing some footage in early trailers.
USA Today published a ton of photos from Dawn of the Planet of the Apes on Wednesday, showing us a bunch of new looks at apes like Andy Serkis' Caesar and Toby Kebbell's to humans played by Jason Clarke and Gary Oldman. Lots of apes on horses and even a shot of Caesar aiming a gun at someone.
"We've got apes on horses," director Matt Reeves said to USA Today. "There is a sense in the beginning of the movie that apes have inherited the Earth. You see the species as it takes dominion over the planet. It's an ape-world. That's the fun of it."
A couple other interesting tidbits from the USA Today article: James Franco's character from Rise of the Planet of the Apes was killed by the virus that wiped out much of humanity. That's too bad — I was holding out hope for a surprise cameo. Also, in addition to having a wife played by Judy Greer (an ape wife, that is), Caesar also has two children, an infant son and a teenage son.
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes opens on July 11. It stars Serkis, Kebbell, Clarke, Oldman, Greer, Keri Russell and Kodi Smit-McPhee.
