REPORT: 'Star Wars: Episode VII' Table Read Happening; Han Solo Has 'Gigantic Role'
With Sunday being May 4, a date adopted as the official Star Wars holiday (May the 4th = May the Force, get it?), there's almost a 100 percent likelihood that we're getting some big Star Wars: Episode VII news this weekend.
From what I'm hearing, it's going to be a casting announcement of some sort, probably including Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher. We're probably going to have to wait until Comic-Con in July to get the title of Episode VII, but casting news would be by far the hugest announcement we've gotten about this movie since JJ Abrams was named its director.
There's a chance that we might get some news even earlier, though. According to Deadline, Abrams is holding the first table read of Episode VII on Tuesday, gathering the cast in London. In addition to Hamill, Ford and Fisher, Deadline reports that Inside Llewyn Davis star Oscar Isaac, Girls star Adam Driver, Attack the Block star John Boyega and newcomer Maisie Richardson-Sellers are in line for Episode VII roles.
On top of all that, Deadline reports that "Ford has a gigantic role in the first of the next three films." Considering that Ford has long seemed like the guy who just wanted to get away from the Star Wars spotlight, even asking George Lucas to kill off Han Solo in Star Wars: Episode VII — Return of the Jedi, this is a surprise. I'm sure fans will love to see the final adventures of Han Solo in the Sequel Trilogy, but is Lucasfilm risking another Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull with this move?
