'Boardwalk Empire' Actor Charlie Cox to Star in Marvel's 'Daredevil' Netflix Series
With Ben Affleck busy being Batman, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has found its new Daredevil. On Tuesday, Marvel Studios announced that Charlie Cox will play the titular character in its upcoming Daredevil Netflix series.
As someone who doesn't watch Boardwalk Empire or has seen Stardust, I'm not familiar with Cox's work. Marvel Entertainment Chief Creative Officer Joe Quesada seems excited about Cox playing Matt Murdok, though, tweeting, "I can't wait for all of Marveldom to see Charlie bring Matt to life, it's going to be thrilling!"
Daredevil will launch Marvel Studios and Netflix's ambitious content plan, being the first of four series to premiere through the streaming service. Daredevil will be followed by Jessica Jones, Iron Fist and Luke Cage. The four 13-episode series will culminate in a The Defenders miniseries.
Cox's casting comes on the heels of the news that Steven S. DeKnight would replace Drew Goddard as Daredevil showrunner.
Marvel is proud to announce that acclaimed actor Charlie Cox has joined "Marvel's Daredevil," an all-new 13-episode series premiering on Netflix in 2015. Best known for his acclaimed work in "Boardwalk Empire" and "Stardust," Cox will play Matt Murdock, the lead role in this all-new Marvel Television series. Blinded as a young boy but imbued with extraordinary senses, Matt Murdock fights against injustice by day as a lawyer, and by night as the super hero Daredevil in modern day Hell's Kitchen, New York City.
