Disney Planning on 'At Least Three' 'Star Wars' Spinoffs in Addition to Sequel Trilogy

Amid all the excitement over Star Wars: Episode VII, it's easy to forget that part of Disney's plans for the Star Wars franchise is a bunch of spinoff standalone movies. Disney announced those plans back in November, revealing that Lucasfilm was working on two standalone Star Wars movies at that time.

During a fiscal earnings call on Tuesday, The Walt Disney Company Chairman and CEO Bob Iger told investors that there are "at least three" Star Wars spinoffs in the works. Iger didn't mention which characters the films would focus on, but if previous rumors are any hint, fans should expect to see Han Solo, Yoda and Boba Fett origin movies.

With the Sequel Trilogy movies scheduled for 2015, 2017 and 2019, Disney plans to release standalone Star Wars movies in the years between those episodes, evolving the Star Wars franchise from one that produced six films between 1977 and 2005 into a franchise that pumps out a film per year.

I'm curious to see what happens after the Sequel Trilogy wraps up in 2019. I don't expect Disney to just call it at that — does that mean we're in for an eternity of Star Wars spinoff films or will there be a way to continue producing actual saga episodes?
