'Together Apes Strong': Caesar Declares War in New 'Dawn of the Planet of the Apes' Trailer
A new trailer for Dawn of the Planet of the Apes debuted on Thursday morning, and it's incredibly impressive. If you're a fan of the Planet of the Apes franchise and loved Rise of the Planet of the Apes, this trailer should make you very excited to see the next installment in the series.
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes picks up years after the events of Rise of the Planet of the Apes. The Simian Flu has decimated humanity, and Caesar and his growing community of intelligent apes are living outside of San Francisco. The apes have built their own society, and the new trailer shows that they have societal roles, families, graphic novels and even a written language. The apes' peaceful life is upset when humans decide to push back against them, blaming them for the virus that almost wiped out humanity.
The new Dawn of the Planet of the Apes trailer hints at all of that, while also keeping much of the plot and action under wraps. It's no surprise now that Caesar can talk, but that doesn't make it any less awesome when he does. This trailer also solves the question surrounding how the movie would include James Franco when Franco didn't even know he'd have a cameo.
Matt Reeves directs Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. I'm not the only one who thinks his work on this movie looks great, as Fox has already locked in Reeves to direct the next sequel, which will hit theaters on July 29, 2016.
Motion-capture expert Andy Serkis plays Caesar, leading a cast that also includes Jason Clarke, Gary Oldman, Keri Russell, Judy Greer, Kodi Smit-McPhee and Toby Kebbell.
You can check out both the American and United Kingdom versions of the new Dawn of the Planet of the Apes trailer below. The two versions are very similar and even run the same length, but are cut with different music and swap out a few scenes.
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes opens on July 11.
