Disney Channel Renews 'Girl Meets World' for a Second Season

The meeting of girl and world won't be a short one, as the Disney Channel renewed Girl Meets World for a second season on Wednesday. The freshman sitcom is only five episodes in, but its ratings have impressed Disney Channel execs.

"The series swiftly became a favorite of kids and their parents, many of whom grew up with Boy Meets World," Disney Channels Worldwide Executive Vice President of Original Programming Adam Bonnett said in a statement. "We're looking forward to watching Riley Matthews and Maya Hart make the world their own, as Cory and Topanga teach them life lessons along the way."

According to TheWrap, production on second season of the Boy Meets World sequel will begin in November.

Despite my original excitement for Girl Meets World, I've only see the show's second episode. There's nothing really wrong with the show, but I think my enthusiasm leading up to it was more about the hope of seeing Boy Meets World again. Girl Meets World seems to be doing a good job capturing some of that spirit (Sabrina Carpenter must have studied tapes of Rider Strong as Shawn Hunter), but this is a different show for a different generation.
