New 'Star Wars Rebels' Clip Introduces Sabine Wren

For the most part, everything I've seen from Star Wars Rebels has really impressed me. The series is doing everything it can to evoke the Original Trilogy, from the Ralph McQuarrie-inspired designs to John Williams-esque score. There's one part of Star Wars Rebels, though, that has yet to click for me: The character of Sabine Wren.

Female weapons expert? Mandalorian armor? Great ideas. Aspiring artist who likes to tag Imperial property with graffiti while wearing Mandalorian armor painted in pinks, purples and checkerboard patterns? Not working for me.

In Star Wars: The Clone Wars, we saw what a badass female Mandalorian looked like. The Katee Sackhoff-voiced Bo-Katan wasn't a gimmick — she was just cool. Sabine is a character that has too much going on, or at least that what it seems like so far.

Lucasfilm released "Art Attack," a short featuring Sabine, on Monday. The character has been absent from not only the previous clips we've seen but also from toys like the Star Wars Rebels Lego line, so this clip is really the most we've seen of Sabine so far.

As I've said over and over again, Star Wars Rebels looks really, really strong. I just hope a gimmicky character like Sabine doesn't mess things up.
