1969: The Apollo 11 astronauts are released from quarantine and are celebrated with a ticker-tape parade. USA! USA! USA! We did it. We won the moon. And America never let go of our hold on the moon, maintaining a permanent presence there and using it as a launching base to worlds — What? What's that? We stopped going to the moon? We didn't ever dream bigger? We're relying on the Russians to even get into space now? Oh. Wow. Well. That's a disappointment. Bummer.
