Fox Sets Ryan Reynolds' 'Deadpool' for February 2016

Ryan Reynolds is finally going to get to make the Deadpool movie he's been dreaming of. Fox announced on Thursday that it had slotted Deadpool for Feb. 12, 2016.

Reynolds and Fox have been tossing around the idea of making a Deadpool movie for years now, beginning with X-Men Origins: Wolverine. The actor played Wade Wilson in that movie, but both X-Men Origins: Wolverine and its portrayal of Deadpool were panned by fans and critics.

With director Tim Miller at the helm, the upcoming movie should make Deadpool fans happy. A recent leaked test footage reel showed off a fast-talking, joke-making fourth wall-breaking version of the character, with Reynolds providing Deadpool's voice.

The Hollywood Reporter notes that while Reynolds is obviously going to star in Deadpool, he hasn't signed a deal yet. It'll happen.

With Fox Studios eager to keep up with Marvel Studios' Marvel Cinematic Universe, the sudden greenlighting of Deadpool shouldn't come as a shock. Guardians of the Galaxy proved that fans are ready for a offbeat adaption. While Deadpool will probably be rated R, this is Fox trying to replicate Marvel's success with Guardians of the Galaxy.
