George Clooney Will Direct (and Probably Score Some Oscar Nominations for) British Phone Hacking Scandal Movie

The Internet has been consumed by the iCloud celebrity hacking scandal the past few days, but it's a different hacking scandal that's caught George Clooney's attention. The actor/director announced on Wednesday that he will next direct Hack Attack, a movie about the British phone hacking scandal that brought down Rupert Murdoch's News of the World.

"This has all the elements — lying, corruption, blackmail — at the highest levels of government by the biggest newspaper in London," Clooney said, according to TheWrap. "And the fact that it's true is the best part. Nick is a brave and stubborn reporter and we consider it an honor to put his book to film."

The "Nick" Clooney refers to is Nick Davies, the British journalist who wrote Hack Attack.

According to TheWrap, Clooney won't act in Hack Attack. The film will be produced by Smokehouse Pictures and Sony Pictures.
