'How I Met Your Mother' Alternate Ending Is the Perfect Closure Fans Wanted

How I Met Your Mother fans will get the chance to own the official alternate ending to the show when How I Met Your Mother: The Complete Series hits DVD in a few weeks, but everyone can watch that alternate ending now thanks to it leaking online.

Geez. That's perfect. Absolutely perfect. Ted always promised us that the events in his stories were leading to finding The Mother, and this ending makes that journey pretty clear.

TVLine first reported on the leak of the alternate ending, commenting that "reps have yet to confirm to TVLine that this is indeed the official alt ending, a new voiceover from Ted (as voiced by Bob Saget) strongly implies it is legit." The fact that the clip has also been pulled from YouTube by Fox should back up the theory that this is the real deal.

From we heard when HIMYM ended, the ending that aired in March was the ending that creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas had wanted since they started the series almost a decade ago. They even shot and saved scenes with Lyndsy Fonseca and David Henrie, who played Ted's kids, to be used in the finale. Hardcore HIMYM fans felt that the ending of the series would have made sense if the show had only aired for a few seasons, but after nine seasons and years of being told that Ted and Robin weren't right for each other and would never end up together, that scenario just didn't sit well.

The official alternate ending not only fixes that problem but it shows how easily Bays and Thomas could have changed gears and delivered a HIMYM series finale that would have been true to the spirit of the show.

Is this the first time a TV series released an official alternate ending? The finale that aired in March is obviously the canon ending, but what's stopping HIMYM fans from adopting this ending as the one they stand behind?
