DOCTOR STRANGE to Cast His Spell on Theaters on Nov. 4, 2016

Marvel Studios officially announced Doctor Strange on Tuesday, revealing that the movie will be a part of Phase Three of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Missing from the announcement was news of who will play Doctor Strange. Sounds like Marvel and Benedict Cumberbatch haven't reached a deal yet.

At a special presentation at the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige announced Marvel's "Doctor Strange" would hit theaters November 4, 2016, marking the hero's big screen debut.

Scott Derrickson will direct the film introducing the Master of the Mystic Arts to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

"It takes a while to work on these movies before they're ready to come to you in theaters," said Feige. "Doctor Stephen Strange, brilliant neurosurgeon, bit of an arrogant fellow who gets in a car accident and ruins what he thinks are the tools of his trade: his hands.

"In the Marvel Cinematic Universe version of the supernatural, that involves everything from quantum mechanics to string theory. The idea of this film is to open up a whole new corner of the cinematic universe. We want to enter, through Strange, the world of parallel dimensions."

As Kevin Feige mentioned, Doctor Strange will open up the magical corner of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. We'll probably see a touch of that with Scarlet Witch in Avengers: Age of Ultron, but Doctor Strange will be magic's biggest showcase possible.

The mention of parallel dimensions by Feige is also interesting, as parallel dimensions were one way fans have been speculating Spider-Man could be brought from Sony's Amazing Spider-Man megafranchise into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Doctor Strange was originally expected to open on July 8, 2016, but will now open on Nov. 4, 2018. The movie will be directed by Scott Derrickson.
