First Teaser Trailer for 'Insider Out' Play on Past Pixar Emotions

There was a time when Pixar could do no wrong. For roughly a decade, the studio took animation to a new level, delivering triumphs like Toy Story 3 and Up. Then the studio hit a rough patch. Cars 2 — a movie-length toy commercial featuring Larry the Cable Guy — derailed Pixar. Since then, the studio has stumbled through attempts at reclaiming that past glory. Brave and Monsters University were OK, but they were shadows of what Pixar once did. The studio's downfall was made more apparent as Disney Animation Studios, Pixar's corporate sibling, launched its own second renaissance with Wreck-It Ralph and Frozen. Pixar hit another low when it couldn't even pull together a film for 2014.

When Inside Out hits theaters on June 19, 2015, a ton will be riding on that film. Pixar's redemption can either begin with Inside Out ... or the studio can fall deeper in this hole.

Unlike much of Pixar's recent focus, Inside Out is an original movie directed by Pete Docter with a screenplay by Michael Arndt. Putting the Up director and Toy Story 3 screenwriter together has to be a good thing, right? Inside Out will focus on Joy, Anger, Disgust, Fear and Sadness — the emotions inside a girl's head. Amy Poehler, Lewis Black, Mindy Kaling, Bill Hader and Phyllis Smith voice those emotions.

Pixar released the first teaser trailer for Inside Out on Thursday, relying heavily on the studio's past films to remind viewers what Pixar can do.
