72nd Annual Golden Globes: The Winners
The 72nd Annual Golden Globe Awards were held on Sunday night, giving the Hollywood Foreign Press its annual chance to hang out with celebrities. Unlike the Oscars, the Golden Globes don't really mean much. They're usually just a time for Hollywood to hang out and joke among themselves.
Unfortunately, the jokes coming from Tina Fey and Amy Poehler weren't as great as they have been in past years. The duo disappeared at times, leaving us wondering why we were still watching.
That said, these Golden Globes did give us a great Kevin Spacey acceptance speech and a nice tribute to George Clooney's career. That guy has everything yet it's impossible to hate him.
So what do the Golden Globes mean when it comes to the Oscars? Boyhood managed to separate itself from the pack, tacking home Best Motion Picture — Drama and Best Director for Richard Linklater. Birdman got a big win when Michael Keaton scored Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture — Drama. As the Globes split most of the major categories into Drama and Comedy or Musical, it's sometimes hard to figure out what the ceremony means for the Oscars, but we should count on Boyhood and Birdman being major contenders in a few weeks.
Oh, and How to Train Your Dragon 2 over The Lego Movie for Best Animated Feature Film? C'mon. In what universe does that happen?
