THE NEW MUTANTS: X-Men Spinoff to Be Directed by THE FAULT IN OUR STARS Helmer Josh Boone
Ready for some teen angst with your X-Men movies? Fox has signed The Fault in Our Stars director Josh Boone to helm The New Mutants, a spinoff in the X-Men cinematic universe. Boone will direct The New Mutants and co-write the film with Knate Gwaltney, a producer on the Jackass franchise. Simon Kinberg, the godfather of Fox's X-Men universe, will produce with Lauren Shuler Donner.
"We're so excited to explore this new part of the X-Men universe, and so excited to do it with Josh, who is uniquely suited to tell this story about young characters," Kinberg said in a statement.
The New Mutants were introduced by Marvel in 1982, with Chris Claremont and Bob McLeod at the helm. The series gained new popularity in 1989 when physique-expert Rob Liefeld took over and added Cable to the book. The series made a comeback in the 2000s.
Fox is hard at work building out the X-Men cinematic universe. X-Men: Apocalypse will hit theaters next year and build on the storylines from X-Men: Days of Future Past. Ryan Reynolds is hard at work bringing Deadpool to life, Channing Tatum is attached to a Gambit movie and Hugh Jackman is on board for one final Wolverine standalone movie. With The New Mutants joining those movies, the rumor from Latino-Review that Fox was going to reboot the entire X-Men franchise after X-Men: Apocalypse is sounding more and more false.
The New Mutants doesn't have a release date yet.
