Weekend Box Office Roundup (April 27-29)

1. Think Like a Man (1)
$18.00 million ($60.87 million)
Think Like a Man held on to the top spot at the box office for its second week, aided by weak debuts by The Pirates! Band of Misfits, The Five-Year Engagement and The Raven (which didn't even break the $10 million mark). Hopefully it enjoyed this spot the past two weeks, because I'm thinking The Avengers will assemble a $200 million opening this upcoming weekend.

2. The Pirates! Band of Misfits (N)
$11.40 million ($11.40 million)
Do kids go this kind of movie? I always respected the Aardman Studios films back when they were actually claymation, but now that they've just CGI-ized that style, it seems like they've lost something. I can't even tell you how many time I saw the trailer for The Pirates! Band of Misfits, but it managed to make me less interested in the movie every time.

3. The Lucky One (2)
$11.33 million ($39.93 million)
The Lucky One dropped almost 50 percent in its second weekend. I'm sure there's an explanation for this, but for now, I'm going to attribute it to the movie using up the majority of its stock of High School Musical fans last weekend.

4. The Hunger Games (3)
$11.25 million ($372.46 million)
The Hunger Games will probably creep past the $400 million mark over the next few weeks, but its run at the box office is all but officially over now. The baton will be passed to The Avengers next weekend, thus kicking off the summer blockbuster season. Nice work, though, Hunger Games

5. The Five-Year Engagement (5)
$11.16 million ($11.16 million)
I'm disappointed that The Five-Year Engagement didn't connect with audiences. I really liked the film, so it's too bad to see it debut at No. 5 (although Nos. 2 through 5 are within just a couple hundred thousand dollars of each other). While The Five-Year Engagement will never be a box office champ, I can still hope that people'll check it out when they get a chance.

Next week's predictions:
1. The Avengers
2. Think Like a Man
3. The Lucky One
4. The Hunger Games
5. The Five-Year Engagement
