SECOND WEEKEND RECORD: 'The Avengers' Dominates With $103.2M

After breaking all kinds of box office records during its first week in theaters, The Avengers kept it up this past weekend, adding $103.2 million to its haul. Not only is $104 million a second-weekend record, but the total on its own would rank No. 19 all-time for an opening weekend. Avatar's record for a second weekend of $75.62 million just got crushed.

The film is now No. 18 on the all-time list for total domestic box office grosses with $373.18 million. It sounds insane, but The Avengers could cross the $500 million mark sometime over the next week, an achievement that only Avatar, Titanic and The Dark Knight have notched.

The Avengers will have to fight Battleship for box office supremacy next weekend. Avatar currently holds the record for best third weekend gross with $68.49 million. If The Avengers beats Battleship, I'm calling dibs on the "Avengers sinks their Battleship!" headline. Seriously. It's mine.
