Justin Timberlake, Natalie Portman, Justin Bieber, Will Ferrell, Jon Hamm and Michael Bolton Celebrate the 100th SNL Digital Short
It seems like just yesterday the world first experienced the awesomeness of the SNL Digital Short when Lazy Sunday aired.* That was back in December of 2005. Six and a half years later, Saturday Night Live celebrated the 100th Digital Short, bringing in just about every celebrity who has ever been game enough to shoot a Digital Short with the Lonely Island crew. Justin Timberlake, Natalie Portman, Jon Hamm and Michael Bolton all came back to relive their iconic Digital Shorts roles. They were joined by Lonely Islanders Andy Samberg, Jorma Taccone and Akiva Schaffer, along with the night's host, Will Ferrell, and Justin Beiber.
Due to how the Digital Short guys plan on celebrating No. 100, this video's language is a little NSFW. You've been warned.
While the quality of SNL has fluctuated over the past few seasons, the Digital Shorts have usually been the show's most solid parts, often delivering viral moments. I remember the days of the Internet when Lazy Sunday aired. YouTube was in its infancy, there was no Hulu. It was almost impossible to find a legal version of the Digital Short online. NBC was too busy going after websites for sharing Lazy Sunday to realize that it should publicize the crap out of the treasure it had on its hands.
We should enjoy the Digital Shorts while we can. With Samberg allegedly leaving SNL after this season, there's the chance we could be at the end of an era.
*Lazy Sunday was actually the second Digital Short. Lettuce was the first. No one remembers Lettuce though.
