Will Ferrell on 'SNL': The Return of George W. Bush

In addition to the 100th Digital Short, last night's Saturday Night Live brought us the return of the legendary Will Ferrell. Many of SNL's best episodes this season have been when former cast members have returned to host. Jimmy Fallon and Maya Rudolph's episodes delivered some of the funniest moments the show has offered in awhile. So, how was the show with Ferrell back?

To no one's surprise, Ferrell dusted off his George W. Bush impression for the cold open, giving us a glimpse at what a Bush presidency with Joe Biden as vice president could've have been like. The 100th Digital Short aside, this sketch was probably the night's best. SNL revisited several sketches with Ferrell, but, oddly enough, didn't go back to his best ones. We got the husband-wife music teacher combo, but no Celebrity Jeopardy or hot tub lovers. Instead, SNL rehashed Jason Sudeikis and Will Forte's inappropriate ESPN announcers and the awkward procession of public event speakers.



Overall, Ferrell's return to SNL was a disappointment. Unlike Fallon and Rudolph's returns, the episode didn't feel fresh. It doesn't seem like this long, but Ferrell has been gone from SNL for ten years now. Has he gotten stale in that decade?
