Weekend Box Office Roundup (May 11-13)
1. The Avengers (1)
$103.05 million ($373.07million)
Another weekend and another record for The Avengers. After breaking the opening weekend and becoming the first movie to open with more than $200 million, The Avengers broke the second weekend record and did so by becoming the first movie to ever have a second weekend over $100 million.
At this point, The Avengers has set its sights on some of the biggest names in box office history. By the end of next weekend, the film's gross should be among the top five all-time highest domestic box office records, knocking 1977's Star Wars out of the top five. Depending how the next few weekends go, The Avengers could pass The Dark Knight's $533.35 million before we even get The Dark Knight Rises in July.
The Avengers will be challenged by Battleship next weekend. This movie is apparently tracking low, which I can believe. While in Los Angeles last month, I could turn without seeing an ad for The Avengers. Battleship? Nothing.
2. Dark Shadows (N)
$29.69 million ($29.69 million)
Why Warner Bros. would pit Dark Shadows against The Avengers is beyond me. Even if they were going for some kind of counter programming, I don't think it would've made a difference. It also didn't help that Dark Shadows received negative reviews, while The Avengers has received almost universal criticism. I wouldn't expect Dark Shadows to add much more to its box office total, with Battleship and Men in Black III joining the box office fight the over the next two weeks.
3. Think Like a Man (2)
$5.82 million ($81.43 million)
Fun fact: On Sunday alone, The Avengers made twice what the weekend's Nos. 3 through 5 five made all weekend combined. So, yes, Think Like a Man is still in theaters.

4. The Hunger Games (3)
$4.51 million ($387.01 million)
Last week, I guessed that The Avengers would dethrone The Hungers Games as the year's top box office hit during its third weekend in theaters. It turns out that will probably actually happen today, with The Avengers just $13 million behind The Hunger Games.
5. The Lucky One (5)
$4.12 million ($53.79 million)
Maybe Zac Efron will be asked to join The Avengers 2. Probably not. We'll have to wait until Brett Ratner takes over with The Avengers 3: The One Where Everything You Love is Destroyed. I can't wait.
Next week's predictions:
1. The Avengers
2. Battleship
3. The Dictator
4. What to Expect When You're Expecting
5. Dark Shadows
