BEST OF THE GUESTS: Julia Louis-Dreyfus Implies That Conan O'Brien Is Impotent
Just because most of the late-night talk shows are on break this week, doesn't mean that The Bill Kuchman Chronicle isn't going to still find other ways to distract you while you should be working. Throughout the week, check the site for Best of the Guests, highlights of the top celebrity appearances on the late-night shows over the past few months.
Julia Louis-Dreyfus, best known for playing Elaine on Seinfeld, recently returned to television, playing the vice president in HBO's Veep. While on the April 26, 2012, episode of Conan, Louis-Dreyfus talked about how she started watching C-SPAN to research how politicians behave. One quirk that she picked up was the thumb-on-top-of-fist move.
Now, Louis-Dreyfus acts like she was the first to discover this one, but this move has been around for years. Back when Bill Clinton was still president, my mom and I picked up on this and started making fun of it ourselves. (Yes, I was making fun of politicians back in elementary and middle school.) Dubbing her discovery the "thist," Louis-Dreyfus declares the move an "impotent" one, something that Conan O'Brien takes a great deal of offense to.
