BOX OFFICE: 'Spider-Man' Has the Most Amazing Tuesday Ever
Spider-Man's return to the big screen isn't just a critical hit — it's a box office record-setter too. The Amazing Spider-Man debuted on Tuesday to an estimated $35 million, setting a record for that day of the week. Director Marc Webb's Spider-Man reboot topped the previous Tuesday record of $27.85, which was set back in 2007 by the original Transformers.
Tuesday box office records are a tricky thing to compare, though, as most movies are coming down from their opening weekend highs by Tuesday. Box Office Mojo only lists 12 movies as having Tuesday opening days, with The Amazing Spider-Man joining that list as No. 13. The bar for Tuesdays isn't that high, but The Amazing Spider-Man's $35 million opening day would still rank in the Top 30 historically.
While midweek opening days occur to take advantage of holidays, I personally hate them since it makes comparing opening weekends difficult. Some outlets will report The Amazing Spider-Man's entire July 4th "weekend" gross, while others will just look at this upcoming weekend. My issues with record keeping aside, this film's opening numbers bode very well for the reborn franchise.
