What Would Dan Harmon Do? 'Community' Readies a 'Hunger Games' Episode

Well, is this the first sign of the end for Community? Entertainment Weekly has revealed that the comedy will kick off its fourth (and final?) season with tribute to The Hunger Games.
In the season 4 premiere (NBC, Oct. 19), you will be treated to a parody of — or shall we say, tribute to — The Hunger Games. When the Greendale student records seem to be lost, the Dean (Jim Rash) stages a Hunger Games-like competition to determine enrollment in a class called The History of Ice Cream.
Does this make anyone else feel just a bit queasy about the future of Community? Would fired showrunner and creator Dan Harmon have gone this direction? The Hunger Games just seems like low-hanging fruit, an easy target for a show that has never gone after the easy targets. Community doing a Hunger Games parody comes across like a show doing a parody of Community. The right concept is there, but the execution is off.

Head past the jump to see what Joel McHale has to say about Greendale having a class called The History of Ice Cream and check out another picture of Jim Rash's Dean Pelton in drag. Yes, another picture.

When asked about Greendale having that History of Ice Cream class, McHale had this to say about the community college's academic offerings:
“Ice cream is something that people eat every day and they probably don’t know its origin story,” deadpans McHale. “F— you and your elitist I-don’t-need-to-know-about-my-frozen-treats-and-where-they-came-from attitude.”
