'Jack Reacher' Director Christopher McQuarrie In Line to Helm 'Mission: Impossible 5'

Movie franchises using a different director for each installment has become the big thing over the past years. The Harry Potter and Twilight franchises have led the charge, with budding franchises like The Hunger Games and Planet of the Apes switching up their directors. Mission: Impossible, though, has been doing this for years. Mission: Impossible was directed by Brian De Palma in 1996. Mission: Impossible II was directed by John Woo in 2000. Mission: Impossible III was directed by J.J. Abrams in 2006. And most recently, Mission: Impossible — Ghost Protocol was directed by Brad Bird in 2011.

Looks like Paramount and Tom Cruise are going to keep the tradition going with Mission: Impossible V, as the studio has chosen Christopher McQuarrie to direct the next movie, according to a Deadline report. McQuarrie directed Jack Reacher, Cruise's next movie, and worked with the actor on Valkyrie. Deadline also reports that Paramount is sensing that Jack Reacher is going to be a hit, making the studio eager to get Mission: Impossible V going and to do so with McQuarrie.
